hny!

Looking Back, Looking Ahead
4

It’s a beautiful, sunny First of January here — a new day, a new week, a new year, all in one. If you’re like me, you’ve read your share of “Year In Review” and “Goal-Setting for the Year Ahead” articles by now, so I’ll leave that to others, but I’m definitely feeling optimistic about this opportunity for a new beginning.

It’s been a minute since my last post, so today I’ll just play a little catch-up. As I should’ve expected, December’s been a big ol’ pile of crazy. End-of-year projects at my day job, shopping, Christmas cheer… you know the drill. Which means I’ve gotten behind on this blog, on my reading, and really on all things low-carb. But there are a few pieces of good news that I’m exited to share…

hard times

Yes, it’s official: My Unremarkable Brain is now available in hardcover! Just a few weeks ago, a box containing the first twenty copies showed up at my door. Thank you to all the beta readers and pre-orderers who made this possible. Fun fact: only a small percentage of books ever come out in hardcover, so this is something of a mark of distinction. It will also help me to get the book into independent bookstores (who often prefer this format to paperback).

If you have a local bookstore, be it an indy shop or a big chain, where you’d like to see my little book show up, shoot me a reply to this email and I’ll reach out to them. For small-press authors like me, the legwork of distribution is usually a DIY job.

clearly keto

Speaking of books, I’m still reading and scribbling notes about Dr. Mary Newport’s book Clearly Keto: For Healthy Brain Aging and Alzheimer’s Prevention. I’ve mentioned Dr. Newport’s story of using coconut oil and ketone supplements to help her husband, Steve, treat cognitive decline, but that’s only the start of this comprehensive and deeply-researched book.

There’s so much here that I’m going to need to push back our Zoom live event with Dr. Newport just so I can prepare! Luckily, she’s been kind enough to accommodate, and I can now announce that we will have a LIVE Zoom event with Dr. Mary Newport on Wednesday, January 25 at 6:30 PM Eastern. Mark your calendar now!

In the meantime, here’s the link to order the book if you’d like to read along: https://amzn.to/3VzH8Yp

poster boy

And one final piece of good news: I’m going to Boca!

One of my most popular posts last year was a sort of field report from LowCarbUSA’s Symposium for Metabolic Health — a conference centered around low-carb living. Even attending virtually, I learned a ton of new ideas and information.

Well, this month the conference comes to the East Coast — Boca Raton, Florida, to be exact — and guess which big ol’ fathlete with an unremarkable brain will be there in person?

Yes, I was bowled over a few weeks ago when I learned that my proposal for a poster presentation on keto and epilepsy was accepted — woo hoo! Now I just have to figure out how to make a poster presentation… If you have any tips, hit me up with a comment below. Meanwhile, I’ll keep you, er, “posted” on how it goes.

So that’s the news from here. I hope you and yours are enjoying a wonderful holiday, and are looking forward to a healthy, happy 2023.

Live large,

BigDave
